About 153,000 Californians will be affected by Anthem Blue Cross’s decision to no longer offer health plans in 16 of 19 of Covered California regions.
Anthem will only offer plans in three regions in Northern California, including Redding, Santa Clara County, and Stockton/Modesto.
However, for the rest of Californians, especially those living in the Los Angeles, and Orange County region, their plans will be compromised.
This decision is frustrating to a lot of Anthem Blue Cross Individual/Family policy holders and comes as a surprise to many, but at BenefitPackages.com, we are here to make that transition a little easier to ensure you are getting the coverage you need in 2018.
What should you do now and what are your options?
- If you purchased your plan on the exchange through Covered California you will be automatically migrated to the lowest cost plan within the same metal tier as your current plan. For example, if you are enrolled in a Bronze plan through Anthem, you will automatically be migrated to the cheapest plan available in 2018 with another carrier.
IMPORTANT: This is where it gets tricky. Covered California will not necessarily migrate your plan to an equivalent plan type. Whether you have a PPO or HMO plan, will not be taken into consideration.
If you enrolled directly in Anthem Blue Cross (Not Covered California), you will be left without coverage altogether.
- Open enrollment begins in At BenefitPackages, we can start looking at your coverage NOW. Get a FREE consultation to ensure that your coverage will not be compromised. We can help you see what plans and carriers include your doctors as participating providers and if you prescriptions are included as part of the carrier’s formulary. To find what plan is right for you, our agency will need to see if it makes sense to put you through the exchange or directly to the carrier. We will see if you qualify for Advanced Premium Tax Credits to immediately lower your premium and help you avoid a tax liability letter.
